Velo3D (VELO) announced a $32.6 million contract in December. The company positions itself as the only U.S. based industrial scale OEM with domestically developed "laser powder bed fusion technology" which gains relevance amid defense restrictions on foreign manufactured 3D printing equipment.

Industry adoption of 3D printing across aerospace and defense healthcare automotive and industrial manufacturing is expected to expand throughout the 2020s into the 2030s with 2026 described as near the midpoint of that growth phase. Velo3D's technology supports complex geometries and the firm lists customers including SpaceX Lam Research Honeywell and Anduril.

The company remains a relatively small participant in a large market. The business has a weak financial position that leaves limited margin for error and elevates execution risk as it seeks additional contracts and revenue expansion. Warren Buffett retired on January 1 and leadership transitioned to Greg Abel who joined Berkshire in 1999 and was elevated to the board in 2018. Berkshire holds a cash balance reported as $380+ billion.

Roku (ROKU) holds a 39% share of the connected TV market. A partnership with Amazon provides combined access to advertise to 80 million CTV households representing 80% of U.S. based CTV.

Roku's revenue grew at a low double digit rate over the past three years. Profitability had lagged but the company reported its first profitable quarters since 2021 in the last two quarterly earnings reports. Roku's market capitalization reached $42 billion in 2021 and is reported at $14.9B in current valuation figures.
